MILTON FOOD HUB

Milton Community Garden

Milton Community Garden was set up by local people over ten years ago. It’s a space for everyone to come and enjoy, and learn about growing food. The Garden is open at different times throughout the week for various groups and activities, and seasonal events – check out our Facebook account for more news about what’s currently going on.

Teeny Greenies

Tuesdays 13.15-14.30; Wednesdays 10.15-11.30

Our Teeny Greenies play-groups give local parents/ carers and their wee ones a chance to spend precious time together outdoors in the garden. We’re here in all seasons and all weathers – just remember to wrap up warm for winter sessions – we have a polytunnel to shelter in if it’s all too wet and blustery, and can lend out wee wellies if needed.

Activities vary from week to week. All ages welcome, from birth onwards. No need to book – just turn up on the day! The sessions are FREE to attend. Hot home-made soup and fresh fruit are available at every session, and there’s often organic fruit and veg from the garden to take home.

For more information, please contact our Youth Gardener, Tracy: youthgardens@ngcfi.org.uk.

Young Planters

We currently have two groups of Young Planters (aged between 5-12 years old) who come to the Garden after school on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday each week.

From sowing seeds to harvesting crops, we show young people the ropes and let them enjoy the process of gardening. The young planters are also kept busy with tasting new things, nature crafts and wild play.

Our Young Planters’ clubs are very popular and over-subscribed, but we hope to start a new club in 2023, so if your child would like to attend, please get in touch with our Youth Gardener, Tracy:  youthgardens@ngcfi.org.uk.

Adult Gardening

Tuesdays 10.00-14.30

Are you interested in learning to grow your own fruit or vegetables or interested in looking after a garden? Come and join us on our plot in Germiston Allotments and help us to grow tasty fruit and veggies for the community. No experience necessary and all skill-levels welcome!

We take a break halfway through for a lunch of hot home-made soup (FREE). If you can’t make it along on Tuesdays, but would be interested in joining us for one-off, occasional work-days and special events (eg planting or pruning trees over the winter months) please get in touch: gardens@ngcfi.org.uk
