Cookery Groups
The aims of our cookery workshops
are to facilitate different groups of people to share a healthy meal together once a week, learn about healthy eating and
improve confidence and cookery skills. We hope to strengthen community
knowledge about healthy eating and impact on healthy living practices. We also see cookery as a medium
for encouraging cross-cultural understanding and facilitating the exchange of cultural experiences.
We have run several series of
cookery workshops over the last few years including a men’s cookery group, international cookery exchange groups and
cookery skills groups. We have had people from all ages, cultures and languages attend our sessions. Our cookery sessions run from a variety of locations, depending on each group. The staff who run the sessions do so as a facilitator
for the group’s activities i.e. they do not carry out all the cookery themselves, but help the group figure out what
to do itself. The group is also involved in deciding what is cooked each week. During
2008 we received funding from the Glasgow City Council North Area Budget to increase the numbers of cookery sessions
we run and diversify the groups we work with to include: older people; vulnerable adults; parents with children under 5 years;
youth groups, school groups and a men’s group. At the present time, we are running
cookery classes for youth groups, men's groups, people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, young women and refugees
and asylum seekers.
If you are interested in finding out more about joining a cookery class, becoming a sessional
chef, volunteering to assist at classes, or if you are an organisation or group who is interested in requesting cookery classes,
