Royston Food Hub

The Royston Food Hub started as the ‘Healthier Eating Royston Experience’ (HERE) project in 2012.  We initially had 3 years funding through the Big lottery fund with ‘Our place’ and ‘Support and Connect’. The project is now funded by the Scottish Governments ‘People and Communities fund’.  We work with local families, children, young people, adults, older people and those with addiction needs. We provide the local community with, increased access to affordable fruit and vegetables, improved health through healthy eating support and increased knowledge and experience of growing food.  Some of our activities are outlined below:

Cookery Classes

Our cookery classes are based upon budget cooking and how to make your money go a long way.  However, don’t think that budget cookery  means tasteless food!  We will share our top nutritional and budgeting tips, and why we think it is important to reduce food waste by safely storing food and good use of leftovers.  Get in touch to find out when our next group is on.

Food Hub Group members

Want a say in what goes on in “your community”?  Join our Royston Food Hub group. Meet with others in the community to help make important decisions over the future of our food work and where our efforts should be focused in Royston.

Cookery / healthy living volunteers

A fantastic opportunity to share your cookery passion and knowledge and make a real difference in your community!  We deliver cookery classes and healthy eating demonstrations to schools, groups and people from the community. You would help run these and show people how to cook healthy, affordable food, broadening their choices of what to eat.  You will help inspire people and give them the confidence to cook.

Youth Gardening Assistant Volunteers
A great opportunity to get your hands dirty out in the fresh air and gain experience working with kids!  We run gardening sessions for children in the Royston area, working with youth groups, schools and community groups.  Working closely with staff, you will help prepare and support the Youth ‘Grow Your Own’ sessions, working with young people from different backgrounds, some of whom have support needs.

Grow Your Own

Community Garden Spaces

gardenCopperworks Housing Co-operatives Community Garden has been renovated, and we have been out working in the garden of Eden too.  The children from Royston Primary School have been working very hard to get our growing spaces looking great.

Looking Forward…

Are you interested in learning to grow your own fruit or vegetables?  Do you have a spot in your garden or space indoors?  It only needs to be a small spot even just a window ledge.  If you would like to learn more about sowing, planting and growing and would like to get involved with our growing workshops please get in touch.
