Milton Food Hub: A Community-Owned Future
The Building & The Opportunity
For the past five years, NGCFI has been running the Milton Food Hub from St. Andrew’s Methodist Church. It’s the heart of our community—home to our community meals, café, fruit & veg barra, gardening projects, and so much more.
Right now, we lease the building, which means we’re responsible for its upkeep but don’t own it. Now, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: the Methodist Church has agreed to sell it to us. This means we can secure the Food Hub as a permanent community-owned space, ensuring its future for generations to come.
Why This Matters
Community spaces in Milton are disappearing, but this place is different. It’s more than a building—it’s a lifeline, a home, a place to eat, learn, grow, and belong.
A recent community survey showed overwhelming support for the Food Hub: 🔹 83% of people support community ownership.
🔹 78% value the café, 76% want community meals, and 68% want the fridge and gardening to continue.
🔹 People also want even more: Zumba, ESOL classes, toddler groups, self-defense, computer skills, and youth clubs.
The Milton Food Hub is the heart of the community—and we now have a chance to protect it forever.
What We’ve Achieved So Far
We’re not just dreaming—we’re making it happen. With £15,000 from the Scottish Land Fund, we have:
✅ Worked with Community Links consultants to conduct a larger consultation with the wider Milton area.
✅ Developed a business plan and feasibility study to ensure long-term sustainability.
✅ Carried out building surveys to assess maintenance and repairs.
The Big Picture: Why This Matters for Milton
This isn’t just about a building—it’s about our community’s future.
🏡 Keeping a vital community space in local hands.
🥕 Ensuring people have access to food, support, and connection.
🌱 Growing and expanding opportunities for all ages.
This is our chance to secure the Milton Food Hub for generations to come.
